About this Course

The 10-week course will take place for an hour, twice a week and will be open for middle school to adult students who wish to learn to speak and write Mandarin Chinese.

The pre-recorded course will include greetings, essential dialogues, useful words and phrases and basic grammar. This course will also teach students basic writing. For those students who don’t have a Chinese name, this course will assist students in getting their own! Throughout the learning process, the students will be get to know all about Chinese culture and etiquette. This class is a great beginning course for anyone who wants to learn Mandarin Chinese but doesn’t know where to start.

The course will introduce the Chinese writing system – both pinyin and the romanization system. It will have step-by-step guides on how to write Chinese characters. This course is great for a self-motivated beginner student who wants to learn to speak, read and write in Chinese. The course will provide beginner students with a good, basic knowledge of the language and will build a great foundation for future learning.

About Beginners Part 1 Course Instructor

Mr. Leo Lin is a Mandarin Chinese native speaker from Taiwan. He has worked for the Taiwanese government and taught English to government workers for a few years as his part-time job. Educated in both Taiwan and the United States, he has an understanding both cultures. Leo’s lessons focus on real-life situations. He transforms each lesson into songs, games, activities and crafts that incorporate the foundations of Mandarin and interactive language acquisition. Leo has received training in advanced translation and interpretation (Chinese-English) and is certified in public speaking. He enjoys volunteering and helping others grow. His hobbies include cooking, reading, and playing golf, and he is also a fluegelhorn player. Leo also loves to travel and has traveled to more than 30 countries.

About Beginners Part 2 Course Instructor

Linghua Ding moved to the U.S. in January 2020. She was an associate professor in Guangzhou, China and engaged in communication education for 15 years. As an undergraduate, Linghua studied Chinese Literature and Education at Jiangxi Normal University in China. This course of study was aimed at training Chinese language teachers. After graduating, she worked in the media for eight years as a reporter and editor. She won more than 20 national, provincial and municipal awards for her news works and radio programs. After giving birth to her child, she studied at Jinan University and got a M.A. in Communications in 2005. She became a visiting scholar in The School of Media and Journalism, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2017.
